How to Create an Event Content Strategy That Works
It’s time that event organizers understand the power of their content.
At events, conferences, meetings and summits, hosts relish in the captive audience. Planners have thought through every single detail of the pre-event, mid-event, and post-event experience, and are sure to bring the best, brightest and most engaged minds together to take in the programming. We set up live recordings, simulcasts, photographers and videographers to capture every moment, and make sure there are plenty of opportunities for attendees to ask questions, share their perspectives, and find connection with like-minded people.
As a freelancer and boutique agency owner, I’ve seen many Clients who are sitting on event recordings, photos, presentations, and worksheets but are not sure how to utilize them to their advantage.
How to Use Your Content Library Strategically
Advice—Share on Social Media:
Take a clue from podcasters and other content creators and find ways to deliver bite-sized tips to your audience, meeting them where they are. If your audience lives on Instagram, Reels can be a fantastic way to share. LinkedIn also loves video content, and we know the power of a good TikTok.
Advice—Create On-Demand Content:
If you are offering multiple simultaneous tracks, it’s important to consider those who are not able to attend every session that is offered but still may benefit from viewing the content or sharing with their teams. Of course, there are things to think about with this methodology (beginning with the first touchpoint you have with your speakers), but it can be a huge benefit to members of your community.
Advice—Optimize Event Recap Emails:
Similar to above, but you’d need to someone assigned to collect, sort and organize all the presentations ahead of time and have them ready for the comms team to include in daily recap emails.
I asked my LinkedIn audience if they tend to revisit event content after the conference is over, and 72% voted yes. That signifies to me that it’s always important to consider the longevity of your content and how your guests can utilize it to their benefit—while making sure that it feeds into your next event’s pipeline.
